Police in Madang have begun their pre-Christmas and New Year operations with two additional mobile units coming in from Lae.
Provincial Police Commander Jacob Singura says in the lead up to Christmas and New Year police in Madang will be carrying out awareness within communities.
This is his first week in office and he says to LOOP News that their aim is to get people to understand that law and order issues can only be minimized if people partner with police.
Singura says he hopes that awareness will discourage people from being involved in criminal activities during the Christmas and New Year period.
In a meeting this morning with senior police officers Singura stressed the importance of ensuring police presence is visible.
He says this will deter those with criminal intentions.
