League star says PNG has plenty of talent for NRL

Veteran North Queensland Cowboys player, Brent Tate believes PNG has plenty of talent to get into the NRL.

He said that players like Ray Thompson and James Segeyaro were two good examples of the type of athletes PNG produces.

“PNG has unbelievable athletes. I’ve played against PNG and you know you’ve had a real game of rugby league when you wake up the next morning bruised and feeling sore after playing the Kumuls."

Tate said the Hunters making the finals this season goes to show how much rugby league has improved in the country.

“PNG is still a while away from entering a team into the NRL but continuing to play in the Intrust Super Cup will provide a pathway to further develop rugby league and also get more players from PNG to play in the NRL ,” said Tate.
