Kuman announces new School Registration Policy

The Minister for Education, Nick Kuman has announced that a policy document by the Department of Education on School Registration Policy and Procedures has been developed and approved.

In a media statement yesterday Kuman said the policy was now set for implementation this year.

The Minister said the School Registration Policy and procedures was developed because the Department of Education has seen an increase in schools being established by the education authorities or interest groups in an unplanned and unregulated manner.

These schools have enrolled students and engaged teachers, without due regard of the consequences affecting innocent students and teachers.

“The Provincial Education Advisers, District Education Administrators, Boards of Management, Boards of Governors, Governing Councils and all stakeholders are called to support the implementation of the School Registration Policy and Procedures,” Kuman said.

“The School Registration Policy and Procedures will guide all the education personnel and authorities, political and bureaucratic heads at the national and sub-national levels and education agencies with the standard requirements for establishing new educational institutions in the country.”

“The School Registration Policy and Procedures guide is user-friendly with clear and easy steps to assist stakeholders who wish to register new schools with the National Education System.  Failure to adhere to the policy will lead to new established schools not being registered,”  the Minister said.

A Secretary’s Circular will be sent to all the provincial authorities on the implementation of this policy.

All education authorities and stakeholders are urged to support and implement the policy document that will enhance the Department’s aim to improving and maintaining standards in the education system.
