Kange gets another attempt at bail

The man accused over the murder of the late Regina Morove has filed another application seeking bail before the National Court.

Felix Kange’s lawyer filed a bail application this morning which was heard by Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika this afternoon.

A decision on the bail application will be handed down tomorrow morning at 9:30.

The facts of the bail application moved today surround the same circumstances of which Kange is accused for shooting his wife, the late Morove on the night of May 14.

This application moved today comes after the National Court on June 6, refused bail for the accused, who was facing a charge of manslaughter.

The court was informed that the charge of manslaughter was upgraded to murder on Tuesday, thus prompting another attempt for bail.

Grounds relied on for the bail application was for the accused to be allowed bail so he can continue running his businesses, which include a law firm and security firm. He is the principal lawyer for Kange Lawyers.

His lawyer told the court that Kange has a medical condition, as he is suffering from bowl problems and his continuous detainment will not help.

Other grounds relied on for bail application include the welfare of his six-month-old child, his cooperation and compliance with police in the investigation so far and the fact that the primary witnesses in the case have returned to Australia.

His lawyer submitted it is ‘highly unlikely’ he will interfere with the witnesses.

State opposed the application, saying his businesses can be run by his employees. State also submitted that the doctor’s statement for Kange’s medical condition has ‘doubts’ as the medical report was done on June 8, two days after Justice George Manuhu refused bail to Kange.

State also submitted that interference to witnesses can be done through many forms in the modern world of technology today.

The court was told today that the police summary of facts said the late Regina Morove was shot in the bedroom in the presence of her baby, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend. It is alleged Kange entered the room and shot her with a gun which he got out of the dressing table drawer.
