IEA plans to establish new schools in three provinces

The International Education Agency (IEA) plans to establish new schools in three provinces to extend its reach across the country.

The IEA currently has schools in 19 provinces and plans to set up schools in Manus, Vanimo in West Sepik Province and Kavieng in New Ireland Province.

IEA executive director and chief executive officer, Joe Lalie said the recent schools built were in Buka and Kimbe.

Lalie said in Port Moresby, there’s a growing population here with a lot of new suburbs that have a demand in education as well.

“Some communities are talking to us about opening schools in their suburbs.

“I’m hoping that we can venture into that as well but as a not-for-profit organisation, that’s the challenge we have to work towards identifying areas where we can be able to open up schools.

“The more schools we open up, the more opportunities that we have to educate Papua New Guineans,” Lalie said.

It’s not about the money but it’s about having children being educated so they can be productive in the workforce and even in the village as part of the community, stated the director.

“A lot of people are investing in education, that’s the reason why IEA continues to survive because we work together with parents all the time,” Lalie stressed.

He added that 50 percent of their success is through parents seeing that education is important, and IEA would like to continue to grow.

All IEA schools get their funding from school fees.
