Hunters’ duo on trial with NRL clubs

SP PNG Hunters’ duo Kato Ottio and Warren Clare have been given train and trial opportunities with NRL clubs.

Ottio has joined the Canberra Raiders while Warren Clare is bound for Cronulla Sharks on train and trial engagements.

Their train and trial stints follow Wartovo Puara and Thompson Tete’s six-week attachment with Souths Sydney last year.

sPNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka says this is a great boost for the Hunters as they prepare for their third season in the competition.

Meanwhile, forward heavyweight Willie Minoga has been signed up by 2015 Intrust Cup grand finalists Townsville Blackhawks. Minoga has served as a valuable impact player off the bench.

Tsaka was proud of the trio as what they’ve achieved is a big plus for the programs PNGRFL has, such as with the Hunters.

He reminded the trio that they would have to lift their work-rate as there were other good players in the clubs they were linked with that are in intense competition to impress for long-term contracts.

Tsaka said that it is just a part of the step and more hard work is in store for them as they push towards getting full-time contracts.
