Hundreds turn up at Kimbe to listen to students

Hundreds of people at Kimbe, West New Britain, turned up yesterday to listen to student representatives from the University of PNG and University of Technology.

With approval from the provincial police commander, the students set out with their awareness in the main town area, under the rain trees opposite BSP and Nur House.

Students from UPNG, Unitech and the University of Goroka have been conducting awareness in their respective provinces on PNG’s financial issues. They are also calling on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to respect the integrity of the PM’s office, step aside and clear the numerous allegations levelled against him.

The students were joined by the public and local leaders who expressed their discontentment with the current Government.

They thanked the students for their maturity and keenness to facilitate sessions throughout the nation.

Parents who were present during the awareness called on the UPNG administration and the Government to be fair and lenient towards the students’ peaceful demonstrations.

The public also supported the students financially to help them conduct awareness in other areas of the province. They thanked the students for sacrificing their school semester.

Vice-president of the WNB Students Association at UPNG, Miriam Lakame, expressed gratitude to the PPC and the provincial authorities for their understanding.
