Heli Niugini backs Warriors

Helicopter hire firm Heli Niugini Ltd has come good with a set of jerseys for the Warriors rugby league club in Madang on the club’s 10th anniversary.

Heli Niugini chief executive officer Navin Raju presented the jersey set to club president Kevin Pamba in the presence of club representatives and company staff last Friday.

The presentation took place at the Heli Niugini premises at the Madang airport.

Mr Raju said Heli Niugini was delighted to support the Warriors club which is a consistently top performing team in the Madang town competition and looked forward to the winning ways continuing.

“Heli Niugini is already supporting two soccer teams in Madang and you (Warriors) are the third sports team that we are backing,” said Mr Raju.

“We like to bet on a winning horse so I wish the Warriors club all the best for the season,” the CEO said.

Mr Pamba thanked Heli Niugini on behalf of the club and added that it was a timely support on its 10th anniversary.

“We sincerely thank Heli Niugini CEO Mr Navin Raju for his foresight in backing our club which is made up of mostly Divine Word University students and their friends from other colleges and the community,” Mr Pamba said.

“We also thank the company operations manager Mr David Sly and apprentice William Francis who is also our player for their leg work to get us the sponsorship,” Mr Pamba said.

He said the Heli Niugini support was timely as the club was without a sponsor after the departure of its long-time backer, Lae Builders and Contractors (LBC) following the closure of its operations in Madang.

The club was formed by some DWU students in 2005 and is managed by three staff members of the university as part of their community engagement.
