Health Committee appeals to nurses to attend symposium

The National Professional Health Committee is appealing to nurses throughout the country to attend the 13th annual PNG Nurses Symposium.

The symposium will be held in Lae, Morobe Province from October 10-14 with over 500 nurses expected to attend.

Thomas Telepo from the National Professional Health Committee said all nurses from the urban and rural areas must attend this important event.

Telepo said most nurses, after completing their basic training, tend to work for a longer period of time without applying for more training for upskilling.

He said there is a gap in knowledge and skills as nurses do not update themselves to the current global trends in the medical field.

“We want all nurses to attend the event because that’s the only avenue where we provide for them to come and upskill their knowledge.

“I encourage the nurses to make use of this golden opportunity,” Telepo said.

He also appealed to all directors of nurses and coordinators of hospitals to release the nurses to attend the symposium.

Telepo stressed that the bulk of the population of nurses is yet to attend this annual symposium.

He called on provincial health authorities and hospitals to include in their budgets to assist nurses to attend the symposium.
