Gordon Police Barracks to be relocated

Police Commissioner Gari Baki has revealed he is seriously contemplating the idea of relocating the existing Gordon Police Barracks by January 2017.

This will mean finding land, rebuilding and relocating those currently living at the single and married quarters of the barracks.

“I am not looking at refurbishing Gordon’s anymore. I’m seriously contemplating the idea of relocating Gordon’s,” he told reporters in Port Moresby this week.

He has proposed moving officers to the Bomana Police Barracks but only officers with proper records and those legally married will be allocated houses at Bomana.

“I want the policemen to move out of Gordon’s by January,” he added, when asked how soon they will be moved.

He admitted that he is aware the constabulary owes a lot of money to service providers like PNG Power, Water PNG and Eda Ranu and they will be reviewing how they can minimise those costs also during the symposium.

Commissioner Baki could not confirm how much was owed to Water PNG but said it was a big amount of money.

“Like the new barracks at Bomana, I’ve requested PNG Power to come install Esi Pay meters so that police officers take responsibility,” he said.
