Get a purpose in life says pastor

Young people involved in the Christian Outreach Centre’s (COC) Youth Ministry in Lae have been called to set their destiny and work towards it to have meaningful lives.

Ministry Pastor John Garu said every individual should know their purpose in life as life without purpose was meaningless and a waste of time.

“Without knowing the meaning in life, many people waste their time. Without purpose everything is meaningless,” Ps Garu said.

He said this to the youths during their end of year closing yesterday at Okari hall. The church ran a successful youth ministry this year to develop the younger generation to become good citizens .

Purpose is what keeps a person going; purpose is also a vision, he said.

“You and I know that we have a very limited time as we will not live forever on earth. So in the given time we must have a purpose for living.”

He said many people wasted their time doing the wrong things, ending up with the wrong people because they did not know their future and started doing things “for the sake of doing them”.

Ps Garu said just as God had a purpose when he created the universe, every man and woman should know what life would be for them  and work towards fulfilling their dreams.

“You will spend years of growing up as a man or woman, but if there is no dream and vision in you then you can get married to the wrong person and you will also waste your life by ending up with the wrong person,” he said.

Many of the youths were students from schools in Lae city.

“As students, you must know the purpose of going to school; just as a worker would have his or her purpose when going to work.”

Ps Garu said that where the purpose was not known, abuse was inevitable.

“If you do not know the purpose of your life, you will definitely misuse and abuse your life.”

“Many young people use a knife for the wrong thing. A knife is made for a specific use but people use it to stab others in crime scenes,” Ps Garu said.

In the same way, a screw driver is made to be used in fixing vehicles  but there are cases where people abuse it to cause bodily harm to others, Garu added.
