Free education may help girls’ health: Babao

Lynda Babao, wife of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, hopes that the government’s free education program will contribute to increased improved health care among girls.

She made this statement during the opening of the 2015 PNG Health symposium in Port Moresby.

This year’s theme is “Advancing Women’s Health through Innovation”.

Babao says the symposium will provide strategies and educational programs that will partner with the government, education department, stakeholders, development partners and the private sector to effectively advance women’s health and education.

While commending the government’s increased funding to health care programs over the years Babao says there are many health indicators that are of great concern.

“These indicators draw attention to the poor health of our women,’’ she says.

Babao says it is difficult to come to terms with health challenges women in PNG face every day.
