Former Law Society president talks on law

The former PNG Law Society president, Kerenga Kua praised Justice Bernard Sakora for following the rule of law.

Kua is the current Member for Parliament representing the people of Sinasina Yongomugl in Chimbu Province as a first term MP.

He also served as the country’s attorney general before been sacked by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

“In the short history as an independent nation, judiciary has played a crucial role in maintaining our democracy,” Kua said.

“I was president of Law Society for 10 years before becoming a politician.

“This is truly regrettable, in the arrest of Justice Sakora, but again this is the system and procedures that we have submitted by adapting this constitutional democracy, and everybody is submitted to that process so nobody is exempted from the scrutiny of accountability of such an arrest.

“I admire him for having submitted to that process without going into the Court room to ask his brother judges to give him stay order, you have to give him credit for that.

“He has gone to the committal process without running for a stay order.

“So I give credit to Justice Sakora for letting the process taking its cause, “Kua said.

The allegations leveled against the judge, is of receiving payment from a company connected to the Paraka legal bills saga, and the case is before the committal Court.
