Flights to Wapenamanda on the increase

Air Niugini weekly flights to Wapenamanda Airport have increased since the inception of the flight subsidy agreement by the Enga Provincial Government.

Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas who initiated the arrangement 14 years ago, says flights have increased from one to 14 flights weekly.

Currently Air Niugini subsidiary Link PNG operates to Wapenamanda Airport which serves the entire province.

The Provincial Government started with K250, 000 airfares subsidise funding but in the last two years had increased the funding to K1 million, Sir Peter revealed.

He added that the subsidised cost for 2016 will be paid to the State-owned airline when funding is made available to the provincial government.

With the agreement, all passengers travelling to Wapenamanda pay the same fare as travelling to Mt Hagen in the Western Highlands Province.
