Final adjournment for dangerous driving case

The Central Committal Court has given police prosecution one more month to produce its investigation files in a dangerous driving case or it will throw the matter out in court.

Magistrate Ben Kome today allowed a final adjournment in the case involving Bereina man, Omaro Maka who was arrested and charged in June this year for dangerous driving causing death.

Maka told the court he lives in the village and it was a costly exercise travelling to Port Moresby from Bereina to attend his case.

He made these comments after Police prosecution told the court it is yet to receive instructions from the investigating officer handling the case on his progress in the investigation files.

Kome said in the Central Committal Court, allowable time for a case to be in court is between four to six months.

He said it would be better to have one final adjournment and if police are not ready with file, he will strike the matter out for want of prosecution.

Maka is in court on allegations he ran over a Rigo man in June which caused his death.

His case will return to court on Nov 15.
