Exciting prospect for PNG Rugby

The launching of the Jonah Lomu Legacy Cup is pinpointed as an exciting prospect for Rugby in PNG.

PNG Sports Foundation CEO, Peter Tsamalili Jnr, said the concept was an exciting entry as the country was experiencing unprecedented development in sports.

“Its such a great time for sports in Papua New Guinea and its building a tremendous exposure for what we are about to hold in December,” said Tsamalili Jnr.

He further added: “It’s exciting for the young kids that aspire to be someone in their life using rugby union.”

The Jonah Lomu Legacy Cup is the brainchild of the New Zealand High Commission and Capital Rugby Union.

Tournament Director, Billy Rapilla, shared the same sentiment saying it was an exciting time for rugby especially with the support from New Zealand and that the game needed to move in a different direction.

“Its something that’s very rare that we’ve never seen in the country,” said Rapilla.

“We need another platform to launch ourselves off as far as grassroots rugby is concerned.”

The Jonah Lomu Cup will officially kick off rugby at the refurbished Bava Park Rugby Fields from Decmber 9th – 11th.
