Eighth Stop N Shop supermarket to be opened in May

CPL Group will open its eighth Stop N Shop supermarket at the end of May in Port Moresby.

The retail giant has gone into an agreement with East New Britain Development Corporation, turning the former Anderson stores in Koki and Konedobu into their flagship stores.

ENBDC is a business arm of the East New Britain Provincial Government.

ENBDC chief executive officer William Lamur said the company has spent in between K60-70 million to do renovation to their two properties at Koki and Konedobu.

City Pharmacy Group CEO Ravi Singh said: “The Harbour City (Konedobu) store is under construction, it will bring in international standards of retailing to Papua New Guinea. The setup of the store is different from what it used to be.”

CPL opened its Koki Stop N Shop branch last week.

Singh said the two new supermarkets will create employment for 627 Papua New Guineans.

He added that “the total number of PNG citizens employed by CPL is about 3000, about 98 percent of the CPL workforce”.

CPL’s profit in 2015 stands at around K497 milliion.
