EHPG willing to look after Lahanis

The Eastern Highlands Provincial Government is willing to back up the Lahanis rugby team in 2017.

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso says as the team goes through uncertainty on whether Bintagor will continue being the franchisor, the provincial government is ready to back the team up.

She made the statements following recent media reports that Bintangor owner, Simon Sia, will be ending their support to the team. A report which Sia denied.

“If they are looking for a franchisor, it’s the provincial government now who is willing to look after the team. I as the governor will have to feel responsible for the Lahanis team itself. It can be funded by the Provincial Government team as of next year,” Soso said.

The provincial government has been supporting the team over the years, with the exception of this year, stated Soso.

Meanwhile, Sia has denied media reports last week that Bintangor will no longer be supporting the Lahanis team.

He said the report was not true and Bintangor will continue supporting Lahanis despite the team not having a good season.
