Drug deals on social media targeted by SA police

Four men have been arrested as South Australian police target drug dealing via social media.

Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives said the four accused were working independently of each other.

Three alleged offenders, a 30-year-old Adelaide man, a 23-year-old from Angle Vale and a 25-year-old man from Greenwith, are facing charges of trafficking a controlled drug.

A 32-year-old man from Aldgate is charged with trafficking a controlled drug, along with cultivation of a controlled plant for sale, possessing prescribed equipment and possessing a controlled drug for sale.

All are to face Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Crameri said a current operation by police targeting online activity was a clear warning to anyone dealing in drugs.

"It makes no difference to police if you are dealing drugs on a street corner, in a club or online, we will target those trafficking drugs," he said.

"Police will continue to monitor internet sites used by people offering to sell illicit substances, and we will target these people no matter how small the amount."

He said jail terms were possible for anyone convicted.
