Displaced Uni students seek help from Government

Displaced university students from Southern Highlands and Hela provinces have asked the National Government to consider assisting them to be productively engaged during the remainder of the current academic year.

The students’ requests, contained in a detailed brief was handed to Imbonggu MP, Francis Awesa last Thursday July 14 and is to be considered by parliamentarians from the two provinces.

First of its kind from any university displaced student group from around PNG, Southern Highlands and Hela students are asking for government assistance to help them involve in worthwhile projects and activities.

Their representatives told Awesa in a brief meeting in Mendi that they sincerely want to keep themselves busy by being engaged in useful and gainful activities for the remainder of this academic year.

Awesa commended the students for their initiative and assured them of favourable consideration from government as well as other sources.

He told them to stay away from and not to involve in useless and unproductive acts, but to utilise the remaining months of this academic year in worthwhile and productive activities.

The Imbonggu MP said he sympathised with hundreds of innocent young men and women whose education and future have been shamelessly disrupted by a handful of selfish, self-centred and destructive persons for their own vested interests.

He urged all the displaced university students PNG-wide to keep away from trouble and activities that would further exacerbate situation surrounding the smooth resumption of studies.
