Digicel Play shows first league game of the season

Rugby league fans across the country enjoyed the first NRL pre-season game on Saturday night, when the SP Hunters played the Penrith Panthers at the new National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Thanks to Digicel Play, the game was televised live to people’s homes all over PNG on TVWAN Sports HD.

The live broadcast saw an expert team of 25 people position themselves from a variety of angles around the stadium to ensure those watching at home felt as if they were at the live game.

TVWAN Head of News, Sport & Production, Eggert Gunnarsson, said the event was an exciting start to this year’s rugby league schedule despite the home team losing 20-12.

“Last weekend’s game was the first time any broadcaster has done a live broadcast from the National Football Stadium and I’m so proud of my team for making it a success,” she said.

“The atmosphere at the National Football Stadium was fantastic and it is a visually stunning venue for live games.

“We’re so proud to bring this thrilling atmosphere to viewers all around the country so they can get a piece of the action in the comfort of their own home.

“The new ground has been built to the highest standard and we are looking forward to broadcasting live games throughout the season.”

Digicel Play will broadcast the NRL Premiership League, State of Origin Series, All Stars Match, ANZAC test and the under 20’s games throughout 2016.

All SP Hunters & Digicel Cup live games will be shown on TVWAN Sports HD with replays scheduled on TVWAN Rugby.
