The sponsorship, which allows Digicel to gain naming rights, will assist in staging the event scheduled on April 30.
This is the fourth year that Digicel has sponsored the awards night and throughout this time, the company has helped put the spotlight on hundreds of PNG’s very talented musicians and singers.
Musicians and bands, whose songs had been frequently requested by listeners on YUMIFM in 2015, will finally be recognized on the night for their effort in promoting PNG style music.
A total of 18 awards will be presented to our musicians on the night together with a more organised program aimed at providing a music festival that should keep party-goers on their toes.
This will be the 12th year for YUMIFM to continue providing a plate form for PNG musicians to come forward and expose their style of music and PNGFM is committed to ensure this night.
PNG FM General Manager Adrian Au thanked Digicel for their continuous support as the major sponsor of the music awards and TVWAN for televising the awards night.
Au said that Digicel’s support helps reinforce the development of local musicians and it goes a long way to help stage the event.
Digicel sponsorship manager Jayleen Morris said the awards night is one of the highlights of Digicel’s very busy sponsorship program.
“Digicel knows how much PNG people love their music and our sponsorship is to make sure events like the YUMI FM Digicel PNG Musik Awards are always there to encourage and showcase local talent.
“This awards night recognizes our local artists that create the music and we are very happy to make the night possible,” Morris said.
Digicel is not only supporting the artists but also the fans at home by airing the event on TVWAN.
Kasty of Yumi FM will be presenting at the music awards night and said they try to establish new award categories each year and encourage especially the female artists to participate.
