Defence and Piggies in for tough battle in CRU final

Premiership rivals Defence and Kemele Construction University Piggies will meet in what is set to be a fiery Capital Rugby League Union grand-final match at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, Konedobu in Port Moresby

Defence will go into the match as favourites to defend their consecutive title whilst University Piggies for the first time enters the premier grand final seems calm but prepared for the big battle.

Beating another Defence team last weekend during the semi-finals, University won with a nail biting one point victory 25-26 to make it to the grand final as they look confident for the match this weekend.

Defence on the other end enter into  their third CRU final as all eyes are on them to make another final count. Thrashing Brothers 12-6 during the semi-final last weekend was not easy, however, they will try to defend their title with a lot of good ruck and maul and kicks and chase like they usually do.

“The boys have done it before and are looking forward to do it again for the third time to maintain our reputation in the league as we are preparing for a strong game when University is a tough team to beat as we have played before but the final may be different from what anyone expects,” says Defence captain Kirarock Ngaffin.

University Piggies Captain Raymond Vagi also said that his boys are ready for the battle and as the first timers they are looking to give Defence a good game.

Moreover, in the Under 19 division Vele Hunters will take on Harlequins while University Piggies will face Harlequins in the A Reserve division.

In the women’s division, Spartans will go up against Harlequins for the women’s cup final.
