CPL Lewas commence training for World qualifiers

PNG CPL Lewa’s are back in training for the Global Qualifier in Sri Lanka.

Since returning from the EAP qualifying matches in Samoa recently, the team took a week break and resumed training yesterday as they gear up for the World Qualifiers.

The coaching staff are working with the team to improve their skills, especially with the new players that were recently recruited into the team.

Lewas head coach Rodney Maha said with only seven months away from the tournament, we will be working to improve on all facets of the game including fielding, batting, bowling and running.

Maha also said with a professional assistant coach, Cathryn Fitzpatrick’s, who was once a world’s best also is a motivation to the team in the training and performances.

“Cathryn is a great coach and her experience and advice certainly motivated the girls in every aspect of their game especially mental and physical preparation,” Maha said.

“Having a legend like Cathryn come on board and coach the girls has left a great impression and we hope to continue with her encouragements into our next challenge in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup Global Qualifier in Sri Lanka,” he added.

“We will continue to train hard and motivate ourselves as we prepare to take some of the world’s women’s best cricketers.”

Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick commended the Lewas on their willingness to learn saying that, there is a huge potential for the girls to continue to be successful on the world stage.

“The girls respond well to suggestions about tactics and techniques and with seven (7) months before their next challenge there is plenty of time to further develop these things,” she added.
