City’s new cleanup campaign launched

With the aim to raise awareness on pollution, new clean-up campaign was launched today called the ‘Clean-up Mosbi Campaign’.

The campaign is an initiative of the Sustainable Coastlines PNG (SCPNG) in partnership with the National Capital District Commission.

The campaign runs from October 17 to November 13 and was officially launched by NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

This will involve nine high profile public awareness events at locations around NCDC, a major public awareness campaign and clean-up events for registered groups throughout the four week period.

Parkop encourages the public to take on the challenge and support the campaign as NCDC cannot do it alone and need everybody to work together.

Parkop said: “I urge everyone to take ownership and be responsible about your own rubbish.”

SCPNG founder and chief executive officer Ryley Webster said this campaign will educate and empower Moresby residents to improve their waste disposal behaviour.

Webster urged the public to take part in the positive action to address the issue of pollution in the city.
