China aims to build bond through sports

The Chinese government is looking to build a wider relationship with the PNG Government through sports after organizing their first inaugural Table Tennis Championship over the weekend.

The championship was held at the Rita Flyn netball complex in Port Moresby.

President of the PNG table Tennis George Shao applauds the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Li Ruiyou at the complex on Sunday as he spoke highly of the relationship that Chinese government and PNG government can construct through sports.

Shao said, as Table Tennis is one of the highly competitive sports in China and Papua New Guineans have shown great interest in the game which saw different age groups and gender have come to participate.

“Though venue is our main issue here, we hope to secure a place with the interest people have shown in the game so that we can encourage and develop the sport in a broader perspective.”

Adding that, they can prepare well for international events that may build sports diplomacy relationship that can influence diplomatic, social, and political relations.

“Through this Chinese national sport, we can enhance great relationship between Chinese and PNG government in economic as well as policies,” George said.
