From a casual power operator to a business man

From a humble beginning of getting K109 a fortnight, a Koiari man now owned a service station to help his people and the public travelling to Sogeri.

Degini Dick, 44, saved K40 from his fortnight for almost 14 years to start his fuel station in the Sogeri plateau.

Dick told Loop PNG that he has never received any assistance from the members of Parliament or any Government assistance but started his business from his own sweat.

He said getting to where he is now was not an easy thing as one has to sacrifice time and money to achieve his dream.

“My family is very supportive of the decision I made and sacrifice most of our time without complaining but trusting God to help us in achieving my dream.

“My family have been surviving on my K60 fortnight for 14 solid years,” a soft spoken Dick told Loop PNG.

Dick worked as a casual Operator for PNG Power at the Sirinumu dam for almost 14 years now.

He said the idea of setting up the fuel station came about when he met Coastal Fuel Managing Director in a bar in one of Port Moresby’s night club and started sharing the ideas.

From there, he was determined to start his service station.

With the partnership arrangement with Coastal Fuel, Dick now set up his fuel station.

Dick provides the land and equity to start up the business while Coastal Fuel provides the logistics and fuel.
