“To achieve something PNG never achieved before, we need to commit ourselves to the Christian values and love to our people to become role models,’ said Mr Polye in his Christmas message to Papua New Guineans.
He said everyone including himself needed a “committed service towards our people”.
“We don’t only need to end corruption and greed by way of those in power to take the lead. Also we need a sustainable, healthy and prosperous future for our people in villages and towns,” he said.
He said mothers needed services and care as they gave birth, drawing from examples of expectant Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem.
He said eradication of corruption and restoration of the rule of law should be the New Year resolution of those in power.
Mr Polye has challenged Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to ‘walk the talk’ in fighting corruption starting this Christmas, saying the rule of law and pillars of democracy were being compromised and also those of systems of governance.
