CAA to show proof of land acquisition of Jacksons Airport

The Civil Aviation Authority and the National Mapping Bureau are required to show proof of land acquisition titles before the Waigani National Court over the Jacksons Airdrome.

A State claim case in the civil court recently came before Justice Hitelai Polume Kiele where parties were directed to file relevant court documents before the matter returns to court on Nov 1.

Eliap Tokan, represents the Traditional land owners, the Duruba clan of Koitabu. They filed for state claim against CAA in the matter.

Traditional landowners, the Duruba clan claim that Civil Aviation Authority owns only 27 hectares of the airdrome land which covers a total of 600 hectares.

On July 25, the Waigani National Court ordered for CAA and Mapping Bureau to provide specific documents in court to show that land acquisition titles. This has not been done since.

The traditional landowners claim evidence on foot shows that only 27 hectares of land properly acquired by the State while the remaining balance is customarily owned.

They claim the Lands Minister on 1984 declared all that remaining land however no proper land acquisition was done prior to the declaration.

Justice Polume-Kiele directed parties to provide that proof in court when the matter returns on Nov 1 before her.
