Bubuleta Aid Post outside Alotau to be opened

The National Department of Health will be officially launching the Bubuleta Community Aid Post in Alotau, Milne Bay Province tomorrow.

Representatives from the National Health Department, the Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority as well as respective development partners such as UNICEF, World Health Organisation, Japan International Cooperation Agency and OPEC Fund for International Development, will be present on the day to mark this occasion for the people of Milne Bay.

Bubuleta Community Health Aid Post is a six-bed health facility that will support the local needs for maternal health and child health services. It will also include supervised births, antenatal checkups, short term inpatient care as well as health counseling on preventative measures to living healthier lives.

The CHP will provide regular services on immunisation and vaccination, family planning services for improving lives of women and children which will be serviced by a well-trained and two community health workers.

Communities around Bubuleta will be able to benefit from the basic health services from this CHP.

Only serious cases will be referred to the Alotau Provincial Hospital, which is about 25km away.

The facility has been supported with the construction of three new three-bedroom staff houses for the three health workers. It comes with an ablution block, solar power with provision of a small backup generator, an incinerator for disposing waste and a reticulated water supply arrangement with backup rain water tanks.
