BSP Heart defeat Pistons in Gabba titles

BSP Heart recorded a win in the Gabba Champions Shield today at Amini Park, Port Moresby.

They beat Paradise Foods Pistons in the first T20 match of round three by 69 runs with five wickets in hand.

Pistons sent Heart to the crease after winning the toss.

Daure Kila (2/41) clean bowled Raho Sam for 3 in the second over before PNG Barramundis star batsman Assad Vala joined Ratu Maha to put on a 79 run second wicket partnership.

They steered Heart out of any real trouble before Maha fell for an entertaining 31 runs off just 24 balls which included five boundaries while Vala was eventually dismissed for 92 runs off 53 balls.

His innings included six boundaries and six sixes, helping BSP Heart to a very competitive 6/172 off their allotted 20 overs.

Karo Daure (2/24), Pipi Raho (2/35) and Daure Kila (2/41) all picked up a couple of wickets for the Pistons.

In reply, Paradise Pistons got off to a terrible start, collapsing to 3/17 after four overs thanks to a magnificent opening spell of swing bowling by Kabua Vagi.

The Pistons were unable to recover from this position, and were eventually bowled out for 103 inside 18 overs.

Vala (2/11), Vagi (2/11) and Sese Bau all picked up two wickets, while three other Heart bowlers picked up a wicket apiece.

The competition has three more rounds to go before the finals.
