Brothers in court for selling land to different buyers

Three brothers from Kilakila village, Port Moresby, have been arrested and charged for selling a piece of land to seven different buyers, raking over K34,000.

Charged with seven counts of obtaining monies by false pretense and fraudulent trick, the three brothers appeared at the Waigani Committal Court on Thursday (yesterday).

Elderly men Ulea Baeau, Keno Baeau and Uruba Baeau allegedly collected a total of K34,600 from seven different people between 2012 and 2016 for the same of a piece of land at Kaugere.

They pretended to be the customary land owners of section 43, allotment 8, at Kaugere.

They appeared in court without a lawyer, where their charges were read to them by Magistrate Cosmas Bidar.

With the case being new, investigators will need time to work on it. They will return to court on Nov 3.
