Barras lead Afghanistan by 61 runs on day one

The BSP PNG Barramundis have a lead of 61 runs with 4 wickets in hand after stumps on day one of the Intercontinental Cup 4 day match against Afghanistan at Sharjah Stadium, United Arab Emirates.

Afghanistan batted first yesterday and were all bowled out for a measly 144 runs in the 39th over.

Mohammad Shahzad top scored with 29 runs.

Barras bowler Norman Vanua did the damage taking 4/36 off his 7 overs which included two maidens.

The Barrras first innings at the crease started off disastrously losing opener Tona Ura (7) and then Lega Siaka for a duck which had them at 2/24.

But Vani Morea (29), Sese Bau (34) and the ever reliable Assad Vala (62) got the run chase back on track.

The Barras finished after stumps on day one at 6/205 after 49 overs with Mahuru Dai (67) and John Reva (0) not out.

Day two will resume play at 9:45am (3:45pm PNG time).
