The Hebou PNG Barramundis went down in a devastating first ODI match against Hong Kong by 106 runs at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong batted first and set a mammoth target of 269 for the Barras to chase for victory.
Barras started well knocking off Hong Kong openers cheaply off consecutive balls after deciding to bat, but a 78-run third-wicket stand from skipper Babar Hayat and Nizakat Khan got them back on track to end the overs at 6 for 269.
Chad Soper was the Barras’ best bowler, finishing with 3/39.
PNG had a bad start also after losing their openers cheaply as well, however, Barras recovered to reach 100 for 2 in 17.2 overs but they had no one to anchor their innings.
Hong Kong off spinner Ehsan Khan triggered a slide by taking out their innings' top scorer Assad Vala for 43, and from there, with no one to arrest the slide; they were spun out for 163 in 38.2.
The other two ODI matches will be played on Sunday 6 and Tuesday 8 November.
