Australia’s deputy envoy commends Lewas

The Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner, Bronte Moules has commended the efforts of national women’s cricket team the CPL PNG Lewas on their continued efforts to break through gender barriers both on and off the field.

Ms Moules made the comments during a reception for visiting international cricket legends and representatives of the Lewas led by Vice-captain Ravini Oa.

The Lewas following their success in the ICC East Asia Pacific qualifiers are now preparing for the 2017 World Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka.

Off the field, the team is part of the Australian-funded Girls Empowerment through Cricket and Kriket Blo Olgeta programs, in partnership with Cricket PNG.

“Together, both programs address education, nutrition, financial literacy, careers and leadership among women and girls and people living with disabilities.”

The Lewas participated this week in Cricket PNG’s annual Don’t Drink and Drive Legends Big Bash.

Ms Moules and Gender and Sport staff from the Australian High Commission were pleased to host a small reception for the Lewas and visiting international cricket legends Geoff Lawson, Lisa Sthalekar, Geoff Marsh, and Chris Martin as part of the Legends Big Bash.
