APEC taskforce focuses on framework

The Joint Services Task Force (JSTF), designated to coordinate security operations for APEC 2018, is currently focusing on setting up its framework.

The emphasis last week during its workshop was on building the JSTF headquarters structure, the control, command, coordination and the communication requirements.

A panel discussion was also held to gather and establish the outcomes of ‘exercise long reach’. This was to discuss a way forward on which security aspect each agency will be responsible for during the APEC meet.

Some of the things that were discussed in brief during the discussion panel were mainly responsibilities and key tasks that came under the C3 infrastructure (control, command and communication), which was what they would start off on before the beginning of 2018.

Police Commissioner Gari Baki says for the JSTF to have the headquarters functioning, it is important that the three disciplinary forces decisions’ be made immediately.

This calls for everyone to sit down together and identify manpower that can be released instantly to build up momentum.

ACP Naua Vanuawaru agreed that it is equally important that all agencies start building their manning and staffing of the JSTF as soon as possible, further requesting if the manning process can start off this Monday.

APEC will start at November of 2017 and will slowly scale up to the final activity and leaders’ summit in November of 2018.

The JSTF will be a sustained operation overtime rather than just focusing on the last quarter of 2018.
