ANZ Avalanches remain undefeated in Gabba titles

ANZ Avalanches have continued their winning streak in round three of the Gabba Champions Shield.

They defeated Digicel Dragons by 73 runs in a T20 encounter at Amini Park late yesterday afternoon.

Avalanches won the toss and elected to bat, posting an impressive 5/153 off their allotted 20 overs.

PNG Barramundis Captain Jack Vare (54) and Arina Lahari (52) shared a great opening partnership to hit  Avalanches off to a good start.

Dragons’ bowlers were not able to penetrate the Avalanches’ batsmen, with William Aiga (2/24) the only multiple wicket-taker for the Avalanches.

In reply, Vare opened the bowling with PNG Barramundis leg-spinner Charles Amini Jnr causing havoc among the Dragons’ top order.

Dragons collapsed to 5/20, with Amini taking 3/10 off his four overs.  Dragons never recovered from this position and were bowled out for 80.

Sakavai Gebai took 4/14 while Vagi Guba (26) and Aiga (23) were the only Dragons batsmen that showed any real fight with the bat.

The Gabba Champions Shield continues this weekend with the Men’s Division playing a round of 2 Day Cricket at Amini Park and Colts Ground 1.
