Airport police intercept mustard bags

Airport police confiscated what they thought were drug bags this afternoon but were shocked to find that the haul was in fact mustard bags flown in from Kokoda.

Airport Police Station Commander Robert Wane informed PNG Loop that the haul with a street value worth K45,000 was intercepted in a tip-off to police.

The Chimbu man and Wabag woman who accompanied the bags expressed shock as they claim they had an arrangement with the third level airline company Nuigini Aviation.

The woman says they chartered a plane for K6,600 and spent close to K8,000 to buy the daka.

However, PSC Wane explained that while the police cannot charge them under any law, the bags will be confiscated and handed over to the NCD Buai Enforcement unit to dispose of.

He also raised concerns that the NCD authorities must also look at talking to Air Nuigini as well as the other smaller level airlines to refrain from such activities adding that they must also be fined for breaching the Buai ban laws in place.

The bags are now being held at the Airport police station waiting to be transported to the Buai disposal area at Four-Mile Tarpot area.
