Airlines urged to comply with Betelnut Ban

Airline companies operating into Port Moresby are being warned to comply with the Betelnut Ban laws in place.

This was the frustrations expressed by the Airport Police Station Commander Robert Wane when he spoke with PNG Loop after this afternoon's unusual  mustard  haul at the airport.

PSC Wane tells PNG Loop that the mustard trade in the city is being facilitated by airlines who allow the  vendors to bring in the mustard.

He says that many times the passengers have been allowed to bring in their cargo of mustard which under the Betelnut Ban laws is also illegal to sell or trade.

Wane says airline companies should be held accountable and fined K10,000 penalty for transporting the illegal produce.

He says that many times passengers openly bring the mustard  through and are not stopped at the airports putting stress on his men to police the airport areas and stop them coming in.

A letter will be furnished to all operating airlines on the issue,  while Wane says a meeting will also be sought with NAC executives to see how best they can effectively police the airport area.
