13 singsing groups set for Paiya Mini Show

About 13 singsing groups throughout the Highlands region, Madang and Morobe, will participate at this year’s Paiya Mini Show in Western Highlands Province.

The annual show is scheduled on August 19 at Paiya village, which is about 40 minutes from Mt Hagen Town.

Cultural groups participating include Suli Muli of Enga, Asaro Mudmen of Eastern Highlands, the Huli dancers from Hela, Skeleton Spirit Dancers and Mindima Masalai from Simbu and various groups from WHP.

Others include Hagen Wigmen, Hagen women, Tambul spirit dance and Pimaga dance group from Southern Highlands.

Organiser Pym Mamindi of Paiya Tours said the community is preparing well for the show, doing clean ups and fencing.

Mamindi said the show will take place a day before the Mt Hagen Show so a huge number of local and international tourists are expected to attend the event.

They’ll also put up a demonstration of courtship and traditional marriage and mock fighting using bows and arrows.

There will be a show of tanim het, chief and wives in traditional attire and traditional cooking prepared in an underground oven, which will include pigs and chickens.

A display and sale of artifacts by the local community will be done as well.
