Minister plans ‘eye opener’ schools program

The member for Yangoru Saussia Richard Maru is on a mission to lift the standard of education in his rural district.

Maru is also the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry.

“I want Yangoru-Saussia to be number one in East Sepik Province in terms of education,” Maru said.

“One district in East Sepik must step up and set a standard in terms of the academic level in order to make the other leaders realize the importance of education, it will be an eye opener for the people to realize the type of leadership they have chosen.”

He told the people of Munji and those from Sausso and Numbo LLGs that under his leadership, all schools in the district must have four new classrooms.

“In the last two years we have spent a total of K6 million for education alone under the district’s constitutional funds. That is on top of all the grant money that the district has allocated to all the schools in the district,” Maru said.

The Minister will be opening a four in one double classroom at Mongan Community School next week.

Also will give funding for Sembo, Eastern, Kumbuhun, Nindinumbo and Kusambuk Primary Schools to build classrooms.

“If we want to be number one in terms of academic standards, we must have the best teachers, best facilities and the most conducive environment. Law and order, best education facilities including houses and classrooms will obviously attract best teachers who will in turn give their best service,” Maru said.

Meanwhile the people of Munji also celebrated the opening of a new Community Health Post. Minister Maru when officially opening the health post highlighted the importance of having improved health services and facilities in the district.
