Kaugere Oval Gets a Facelift

Rugby League fans and players in Moresby South will enjoy the comfort of new infrastructure comes next year as the construction of the new car park and training ground is underway at the Sir William Skate Oval in Kaugere.

Global Construction Company has begun construction on the new facilities with the practice ground and the carpark area which has a capacity to hold 80 cars already sealed and ready for the first coat.

Moresby South MP and Minister for Sports and National Events Justin Tkatchenko said this infrastructure is to fulfill his desire to bring sports in the community to the next level.

“The 80 car park will be fenced and on the other side will be the brand new oval which will be utilized for practice purposes.

“The main oval will be used for competition games only so it doesn’t get wear-off so we keep it smart and green all the time,” Tkatchenko said.

On the left wing of the competition oval, Global construction machines are trimming down the mountain and will flatten it down for two more full size ovals.

Tkatchenko also announced that with the new facilities developed, the PNG SP Hunters are also considering to put their new home here in Kaugere.

“There are no commitments yet but they are considering the move and we are looking forward for it as negotiations are still underway,” he added.

“As your member it’s also my job to ensure that this precinct is developed to the standard that we see in Sir John Guise stadium or even the National Football stadium into the future”.
