Digicel Play strikes a move with local dance competition

Digicel Play is getting behind The Cosmopolitan “Bring It To The Floor” dance battle this year, as the competition’s exclusive naming rights sponsor.

The competition, which will run for eight weeks from Saturday, July 9, to Saturday, September 3, provides an opportunity for young hip-hop dancers to showcase their passion and love for the art of urban street dancing in Port Moresby.

Digicel Play CEO Nico Meyer said he was thrilled to team up with The Cosmopolitan to broadcast the talent of young people across the country.

“We are excited to promote the collaboration of this event nationwide through TVWAN, radio play, newspaper advertisements, advertising screens and social media to bring attention to the incredible dancing talent in Port Moresby,” he said.

“As naming rights sponsor, we will also be providing a total of K15,000 prize money to the very best dancers of the competition.

“Digicel Play is committed to fostering a wide variety of talent from across PNG, including the arts.”

The competition is open to members of the public aged 18 years and above with prize money of K8,000, K4,500 and K2,500 on offer for winners in first, second and third place respectively.

The Cosmopolitan general manager, Martin Sherry, said he was extremely grateful for the support of Digicel Play.

“I would like to thank Digicel Play for their generosity in sponsoring the dance battles which are set to be a hit at the Cosmopolitan,” he said.

“We are excited to announce the judging panel will consist of theatre, art and dance choreography professionals to encourage creativity, confidence and the building of skills amongst each individual in every dance crew.

“The competition will consist of four heats: One second chance round, two semi-finals, ending with the grand finale battle show on September 3rd.”

The Cosmopolitan “Bring It To The Floor” dance battle will air in the first segment on TVWAN’s locally produced program “Hang-Out”, which will go to air on Friday, July 15.
