PNG U20 men’s team to play Vanuatu

The PNG U20 men’s football team has an arguably tougher match to play tomorrow when they take on host nation Vanuatu in front of a boisterous Port Villa crowd tomorrow at the Port Vila Stadium in Vanuatu.

This will be their chance to get their campaign back on track after going down to New Caledonia 4-1 on Saturday.

Coach Peter Gunemba is taking confidence from their first half effort against their game with New Caledonia on the weekend as he calls for greater concentration from his players to convert a winning position into three points if they get the opportunity.

“Perhaps in the first half of the game with New Caledonia the players were too confident and thought the game was won after scoring the first goal to lead 1-0 at break,” Gunemba said.

Adding that in the second half they were caught by surprise and when New Caledonia scored two they thought the game was over.

“But this is international football and we have to play for 90 minutes. If we score we have to maintain our intensity and keep the pressure on.”

“We hope to do our best even tough going up against the home side which they have the crowd behind them but we will play football like we used to and convert opportunities we get,” Gunemba said.

The match will start at 3pm PNG time at the Port Villa stadium in Vanuatu.
