Western Province leaders hailed for working together

The Ok Tedi Mining Ltd deputy chief executive officer has praised new political leaders of Western Province for standing together and having the same mind to bring development into the province.

Musje Werror, who’s originally from West Papua but calls Madang his second home province, has been working with OTML for 30 years in Western Province.

He was invited among other guests by North Fly MP James Donald to launch Alicepit-Ambaga-Yetetkun road that will run from the West Bank of Alice River to Indonesia.

Werror described the unity and willingness demonstrated so far by Western leaders as ‘first time in 30 years’.

“Ok Tedi Mine has contributed K15 billion in total benefits to Western Province alone, and K40 billion to the national government,” the OTML deputy CEO said.

He clarified that OTML’s job is to generate benefits (revenue) and it is the government’s job to provide basic goods and services, including infrastructure for its people.

Werror made this clarification because in Western, people have been heavily relying on Ok Tedi and Ok Tedi has somehow become a government to them.

He also took the opportunity to inform the people of North Fly and Western Province that their provincial administrator is now in the company board.

He said the company now has a good board and management team that will deliver to the province and the country as a whole.
