Sydney club donates books

In partnership with the Digicel PNG Foundation, a rotary club in Sydney has made a generous donation to boost the foundations efforts to bring education to rural areas and bridge literacy gaps.

A local woman along with members of her local Rotary Club in Sydney donated a 20 foot container of library books to the foundation.

Karo Haltmeier with members of her Kenthrust Rotary Club collected books to help the foundation fill up library structures that they had built.

Mrs Haltmeier shared her experiences about how books helped her understand the world better, given her experiences outside the country.

She also had the opportunity to go with the foundation to visit two schools in the Autonomous region of Bougainville recently to see the books being set up.

Meantime, Digicel PNG Foundation’s CEO, Beatrice Mahuru commended the efforts of Mrs Haltmeier and her rotary group.

She spoke about how every effort can help develop a community.

To date the foundation has with this donation of books move to set up 7 libraries in the AROB all of which will be filled with the books brought in from this partnership with the Kenthrust Rotary Club.

Mahuru says that an integral aim of the foundation is to encourage the concept that no one gets left behind especially in terms of development.
