Senior Officials’ of APEC economies have expressed their sincere condolences to the victims of the recent earthquakes and the aftermaths experienced in the country.
Senior Officials’ from Australia, China, the United States, New Zealand, Japan and Indonesia, when conveying their sympathies, stated that their economies stand ready to assist PNG in humanitarian assistance.
The Senior Officials convened in Port Moresby this week to discuss the work plans of technical fora that fall under the three main committees of APEC and other core agenda’s of APEC that will chart a way forward for the work carried out this year under the overarching theme and priorities of PNG in 2018.
On the 8th of March 2018, Papua New Guinea begun it’s two-day hosting of the APEC First Senior Official’s meeting.
The First Senior Officials’ meeting convened following a twelve-day cluster of technical meetings hosted in Port Moresby from the 24th of February till the 6th of March.
2018 APEC SOM Chair, H.E. Ivan Pomaleu, thanked fellow Senior Officials’ for their words of comfort and well wishes for the people of Papua New Guinea as the country goes through this devastating time.
He said some of the relief assistance are already on the ground, helping those affected by the natural disaster that has claimed the lives of many and has left a devastating impact on the lives of thousands more.
