The people of Gama LLG in Madang Province will receive free medical checkup by a medical team that will be carrying out a rural medical outreach program.
The outreach program will take place from February 13-16 carried out by a five member team of medical doctors.
The medical team consists of two Americans, one eye specialist from Madang and two doctors from the Kundiawa General Hospital.
This is an initiative of 2016 Digicel PNG Foundation Men of Honour Community Ingenuity Awardee, Vincent Kumura.
Gama is one of the least developed areas of the Usino-Bundi District of Madang.
Kumura highlighted that the disadvantaged people there are in dire need of healthcare among other basic government services.
The team will travel down the mighty Ramu River to remote Gama LLG.
“We will be treating patients at two main villages of Gama along the Ramu River.
“The villagers will be aided with medical supplies and medical prescription glasses from the United States,” he said.
The supplies are now at the U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby to be freighted to Madang.
Patients with chronic vision problems will be listed for eye surgeries at the Fred Hollows Foundation in Madang.
