Rigo development plan to be launched

The 5-year development plan for Rigo District, in Central Province, is scheduled to be launched on the 24th of this month.

There are many aspects of the plan but rehabilitating the Kwikila Township tops the list.

Kwikila Township is the engine room of the district.

This is where the district staff carry out administrative duties.

Thus local MP Lekwa Gure says the district cannot talk about development without fixing its headquarters.

“First of all we need to establish land boundaries of Kwikila followed by improving water and sanitation needs, which is also a development need of the district,” he said.

During the course of the 5 years, there are plans to rebuild Kwikila market and the member’s residence so he can operate from there.

Other development needs that will be incorporated in the 2018 to 2022 plan are accessibility, roads, bridges, food and water security, agriculture and fisheries.

The soon-to-be launched plan also accounts for and encourages SME growth.

“When we are talking about SME, we are talking about going from subsistence to commercial. That is upgrading from trade stores and PMV businesses to manufacturing and downstream processing,” said Gure.
