Kiunga Secondary students graduate

Four-hundred and fifty-six students from Kiunga Secondary School in North Fly, Western Province received their attainment certificates.

The school held its 45th Grade 10 and 22nd Grade 12 graduation ceremony themed, “Improving the status quo of our school” in Kiunga yesterday.

Of the 456 students, 315 were Grade 10's from seven classes and 141 were Grade 12's from four classes.

Students were encouraged that their educational journey has not ended and they must work hard and continue to learn and improve because learning is a process.

School principal, Sowati Ole said though the school had no enough funds to cater for teaching and learning activities this academic year, hardworking teachers ensured that students were taught well to sit for their exams.

“The school has K1 million in the account but accessing that funds from April to August 2022 has not eventuated due to security changes to school account,” he said.

He said this issue was identified and the school's board of management will fix this problem to allow smooth operation in the 2023 academic year.

Students were able to complete three national exams, the Gr 10 Written Expression, Gr 10 Science Practical and Gr 12 Written Expression even without accessing the funding.

Despite these challenges, students focused on their studies and performed well in the 2022 national exams.

Graduands were encouraged that handwork, commitment and sacrifice for pursuing their careers starting from elementary to secondary and into tertiary institutions brings satisfaction to themselves in the future.

In Western Province alone, Kiunga Secondary School did well in overall performances in Grade 10 national exams within the Province this year.
